ILT Soil Creature project

Last week ILT started. My partner for the ILT was Charlie.We had to chose an animal that lived underground.We came up with a meerkat. On the first day we went up to the IT room and made tallies for a maths activity. I drew a pictograph using the information from he tally and I wrote down three questions. Charlie did the table and a bar graph. After the tallies Charlie and I prepared our information about the meerkat. We wrote down our paragraphs for the poster. The next day Charlie and I started making our poster. We wrote our paragrphs in neat and cut out the pictures. I drew a big meerkat for our poster. I had lots of fun and exciting times with Charlie when we made had made it. My favourite fact about the meerkat was  that they could see their enemies in the sky from more than 300 m away. Our next activity the following day was to make an oral about our creature. Charlie and I pretended to be reporters and it was really exciting. Working with Charlie for the ILT was really wonderful.

In IT we have been learning about instant messaging and how we should be careful of the messages we send.When someone sends a message we can not see their facial expression and we can not here their tone so we do not know how they are feeling. We were partnered with one of the Grade 4s from the Pheasants class. We spoke to them about instant messaging and how we can't see the facial expression or here the tone. We also explained what facial expression and tone meant and how we should use more words to explain how we are feeling or someone might take your message wrong. Poetry ILT

Last week the Grade 6s had a poetry ILT. ILT stands for Integrated Learning Task. In the ILT we had 6 tasks to do and a self reflection. Our teachers divided us up into groups of three. For task 1 we had to make a video explaining the definition for poetry words. The second task was poetry writing. We had to choose a theme and we each chose a form of poetry and we wrote one poem each. . My group chose galaxy. This is one of our poems: Blue: Blue is the sky full of stars Blue is the sky reflecting onto to the sea Blue is the beauty write from afar Blue is the colour of me for I am the galaxy  For task 3 was black out poetry. We took a page from a book and we chose words from the page to form a poem. Then we used whiteboard marker to go over the words we didn't need. Task four was the poetry slam. Wonder

In grade 6 we have read a great book called Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It's a book about a boy called August who has a face deformity and he is going to school for the first time and tells of his life at school and how he makes friends and gets through fifth grade. What stood out for me in this book was how in the end everyone in the school was a lot more kind to August once they saw how normal he was on the inside and that he had feelings to. What also stood out was how loving and supportive August's family was. I feel the story has changed me to see past someones looks and always be kind to anyone no matter how they look. This story has shown me that everyone should be treated with kindness even though we might be different to each other. I think Summer is a character I would identify with most because she is a kind and caring girl who treats everyone equally. She is someone who looks at the inside of a person and not the outside.
